The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to issue the New Lagos Identity Card, known as “LAG ID,” to the state residents. Ms. Yinka Fashola, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Science and Technology, announced this at an Internal Stakeholders Workshop on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Alausa, Ikeja.
Ms. Fashola stated in her address that the Lagos State Government is committed to guaranteeing the card’s efficient distribution, and she urged all enrolment personnel to be aggressive and dedicated to registering 100 individuals every day. She expressed confidence that the goal of registering 10 million people by the end of the year will be fulfilled.
Earlier in the day, the General Manager of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA), Engr. (Mrs) Ibilola Kasumu, advocated for staff and public support.
The card contains a chip. Among other things, one of the LAG ID Card 2.0’s benefits is security. The chip is generally accepted around the world and can be used for a variety of purposes.
Kasunmu stated that the new initiative is in line with Governor Babajide Sanwo- Olu’s Smart City Agenda and that it is the first of its kind in West Africa. He also stated that the “Unique LAG ID” will replace the farmer LASRRA Number.
Because it is a bank card, the card has a validity period in her wards and is renewable every five years. It also has 25 basic characteristics that were included to ensure that all of our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies may participate.
You also don’t have to carry about the multipurpose card because the chip has the information that the card will utilize. “It has endless powers,” she pointed out.
The General Manager also stated that the Validation Portal is now operating and emphasized the Android Application solution, which would make registration and access more convenient.
On June 27, 2011, the LASRRA bill was enacted and signed into law. His Excellency, Mr Babatunde Fashola, formally launched the initiative and kicked off registration on September 19th, 2013.
The Lagos State explained the rationale behind the formation of LASRRA. According to the state government, it is the necessity to integrate inhabitants of Lagos State with e-government efforts in order for the services supplied by it to be effectively utilized, as well as to provide an accurate picture for the government’s policies and planning.
The Agency has a responsibility to compile a database of over 20 million Lagosians for the purpose of government planning and policy formulation for the people.
It is a self-governing agency inside the Ministry of Science and Technology.
