Gunmen kill one, kidnap ten in kaduna

An armed group raided a school in Zaria, Nigeria, killing one person and kidnapping ten students.

Nigeria’s security authority have announced that a student was killed and at least 10 people were kidnapped after gunmen attacked a school in the country’s north on Friday, according to Reuters.
One instructor and eight pupils were abducted at the Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, in Kaduna state, according to Samuel Aruwan, the commissioner of internal security in the state. While the injured student was being treated in the hospital, two pupils were shot and one was killed, according to the information provided by Aruwan.
Two lecturers and 10 students were kidnapped by an armed group that included members of the ASUP staff union, Aliyu Kofa, chairman of the polytechnic’s branch of ASUP, told Reuters. He mentioned that the robbers had let go of the staff members’ families, who were also kidnapped. Aruwan and Kofa said that the kidnappers had yet to make any requests for ransom.
Banditry has grown into an almost annual problem in Nigeria’s north. Nearly 200 kids have been abducted from a school in Niger state since early this month.
