Arsenal announced on Wednesday that it had withdrawn out of the Florida Cup and canceled its pre-season tour to the United States after members of its traveling group tested positive for COVID-19.

The Premier League club was supposed to leave on Thursday and play Inter Milan on Sunday in Orlando.

A “small percentage” of the traveling party tested positive, according to report by Associated Press (AP).

“We fully appreciate how disappointing this is for our American fans who had hoped to see us compete in the Florida Cup as part of our pre-season preparation,” the team stated in a statement.

“We’re happy to report that none of the employees are now suffering from COVID symptoms.”

We are pleased to report that no members of the staff are currently exhibiting COVID symptoms.

They are currently living in self-isolation at home.

We are now making alternate plans in accordance with Premier League rules in order to continue our preparations for the new season.

The tournament organizers in a statement said, “We are disappointed that Arsenal has opted not to participate in the 2021 Florida Cup.”

“As we continue to make final preparations for the event, we wish the members of the Arsenal traveling party who tested positive for COVID-19 a rapid recovery.”

Arsenal will not be replaced by another team, according to the tournament administrators.

“Following a limited number of positive COVID tests among the planned group to travel to America tomorrow, we have regretfully been compelled to withdraw from the Florida Cup,” Arsenal said in a statement.

The club went on to say that the painful choice was made to protect the health and well-being of our players and employees.

We are pleased to report that no members of the staff are currently exhibiting COVID symptoms.
