Kyari has revolutionized NNPC, according to PPRAC, and the Group Mansging Director of NNPC has earned the 2020 Zik Leadership Award.

Mallam Mele Kyari, the GMD/CEO of NNPC Ltd, has been praised for converting the NNPC’s fortunes from a loss-making company to a profit-making venture.

At the weekend, the Public Policy Research & Analysis Centre (PPRAC) presented the GMD with its 2020 Zik Prize for Public Service Leadership” at the Eko Hotel in Lagos.

Kyari received the latest recognition from the Kebbi State Governor, Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, at a well-attended event attended by the Emir af Kano, Alh. Aminu Ado Bayero; Emir af Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (rtd); and several other dignitaries.

Mallam Kyari was honoured for his distinguished leadership rale and sterling achievements in the NNPC, which are clearly obvious via the various changes he instituted at the Corporation through openness and accountability, according to Chief Mac Wabara, speaking on behalf of the Centre.

“Mallam Kyari continues to flawlessly modernize NNPC operations, including deepening domestic gas use, rehabilitation of the nation’s refineries, and the first public disclosure of NNPC accounts in the company’s 44-year history!” he stated.

“Under Kyari’s oversight at the NNPC, the firm declared a profit after tax N287 billion in 2020 after losses were reduced from N803 billion in 2018 to N1.7 billion in 2019,” he added. “This is unparalleled in the NNPC’s history,” Wabara said.

He went on to say that Mallam Kyari has constantly played a key role in the enactment of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA), adding that the NNPC is now well-positioned to operate efficiently, just like its worldwide peers, as a result of the legislation’s passage.

In response, Mallam Kyari stated that the NNPC has automated its procedures and systems, lowered its operational expenses, and concentrated on delivering value to Nigerians in the previous two years, in keeping with his management vision of Transparency, Accountability, and Performance Excellence (TAPE).

He went on to say that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) has put a lot of pressure on the NNPC to do things differently and be more accountable to its shareholders, Nigeria’s over 200 million people.

The Zik Leadership Award, he said, will motivate him and his management team to push even harder to become an international national oil company on par with its worldwide rivals.
