Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has urged officers and soldiers in the Nigerian Army (NA) to deploy simulation technologies widely for capacity building and force multiplication in support of ongoing military operations across the country.

He gave the charge today, Monday, July 26th, 2021, at the Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria, Giri, Abuja, where he was declaring open a five-day simulation exercise codenamed EX LION HEART.

He praised the Centre for collaborating with relevant organizations and agencies with extensive simulation technology experience in order to accelerate its development.

The COAS thanked MASA Group and Bohemia Interactive Simulation for their assistance, claiming that they provided the center with trial versions of MASA Simulated War gaming for Operational Readiness and Doctrine (SWORD) and Virtual Battle Space Series 4 software, respectively. He promised the Center the administrative and logistical support it would need to become a world-class facility.

Major General Felix Omoigui, Director General Land Forces Simulation Centre Nigeria, said in his address that the exercise, which is co-hosted by the Defence Simulation Centre Jaji, is aimed at improving the technical staff of the centers and sister security services’ operational planning and decision-making capacity. The exercise, he claims, will sharpen the skills of personnel from the centers as well as the Nigerian Army in using the newly acquired simulation software. He went on to say that the joint exercise will help to increase capacity in the use of MASA SWORD software.

He thanked the COAS for his assistance to the center and for providing the necessary logistics for the exercise.
Senior officers, both serving and retired, as well as participants from various formations and units of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies, attended the event. The presentation of a souvenir to the COAS was the highlight of the event.
